Stay Healthy: 9 Flu Prevention Tips
Raw garlic. Garlic is one of the best natural remedies for flu prevention. It kills viruses responsible for colds and the flu, according to tests by a microbiologist at Brigham Young University. You can simply chew chive garlic and you even don't need to swallow it.
Drink plenty of fluids. Drinking plenty of water will keep you well hydrated. Proper hydration is essential for strong immune system and overall health. Water is the best, however water with lemon juice sweetened with honey, green tea, herbal tea, or fresh sugar-free juices are also good choices. How to know if you are getting enough of fluids? If the color of your urine is close to clear, you're getting enough. If it's deep yellow, you need more fluids.
Stop Smoking. This is the hardest tip to implement, but if you are a smoker and want to protect yourself from the flu - break off your habit. Commonplace advice you hear many times, isn't it? However, an increase in influenza infections among smokers compared to nonsmokers is proven by research studies.
Fruits and vegetables. Remember to eat the recommended 5-9 servings per day of fruits and vegetables. Apples have anti-viral properties and are great preventive remedy against flu.
Room ventilation. Proper ventilation significantly reduces the concentration of pathogenic bacteria and viruses in the air. Opening windows is an easy and extremely effective natural ventilation technique.
Keep the distance. To reduce your chances of infection develop the habit of keeping a distance (about six feet), if possible, between yourself and others during flu epidemic.
Hand washing. Human influenza viruses can survive on surfaces up to 48 hours. Washing your hands often for 15-20 seconds with warm water and soap will help protect you from germs.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. A hackneyed tip, but a number of people neglect this well-known simple advice. The eyes, nose and mouth are entry ports for flu viruses. Rubbing your eyes, nose, or mouth is a sure-fire way to get the flu.
Flu vaccination is pretty common sense, however to complete the list it was added.

Super Brain Yoga! Improve your memory?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSwhpF9iJSs
Namaskara everyone. Most of our Indian/Hindu kids have done this exercise (or prayer) before Lord Ganesha (especially in our younger days - just before important occasions or final exams). This is common in South India and this exercise is called "Thoppu Karanam" in Tamil or "Gunji" in Badaga. If the Indian school teacher asks the student to do this exercise (for being naughty in the class), we say "It is a punishment". And now the same thing has started in America - just termed a little different "It is Super Brain Yoga". Don't miss.. very ... interesting (4 minute video)

South Indian tea the best? We think so...
South Indian tea impresses tea tasters from across the globe India GazetteSunday 22nd February, 2009 (ANI)
Kochi, Feb 22 : Tea tasters from across the globe gathered at the India International Tea Convention (IITC) 2009 in Kochi and got impressed with the colour, taste and aroma of the tea leaves of the region.IITC was organized to popularise and showcase the South Indian teas to the national and international world of beverages. "The main objective is to showcase the South Indian teas to the national and international clientele. South India tea has been suffering on account of perception issues. In actual facts, south India does produce some very exquisite teas. Through this event, we are trying to dispel this misconception," said Dharmaraj, convener, organizing committee.International tea tasters from Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Russia, UK and Germany apart from many Indian masters were the juries for the prestigious Golden Leaf Award Southern Tea Competition of the year."I have come to this convention to see what progress is being made in the South Indian tea growing areas. It was known for history already that South India is able to make fabulous teas, and somehow it has not been done. I am happy to see that in the recent years, there has been progress making South Indian teas as unique and outstanding as other first class producing areas," said Marcus Wulf, tea taster from Germany. The competition was part of the three-day tea convention conducted jointly by the United Planters' Association of Southern India (UPASI) and Tea Board of India. The convention culminated on Saturday. The jury panel evaluated 79 shortlisted varieties of tea which qualified for the second level of screening for the Golden Leaf Award.A tea taster, using his well-honed senses and professional knowledge, examines the wet leaves for its colour, uniformity and brightness and checks the colour of the liquor for its goldenness, brightness and checks out the aroma.A 'tea taster' usually sips through 500 to 1,000 cups of tea on a single day to find the right leaves.India produces around 970 million tons of tea out of which more than 250 million tons is exported.India is the world's largest producer and consumer of tea. Tea is cultivated on at least 521,500 hectares of land in the country. By Juhan Samuel

Drinking Tea reduces stroke risk
According to Lenore Arab, professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine, drinking the beverage can reduce the threat by as much as 21 per cent. UCLA boffins observed that the result was obtained in tea made from the plant Camellia sinensis and not from herbs. It was contemplated that anti-oxidant epigallocatechin gallate or the amino acid Theanine in teas may be what leads to the reduced risks. "By drinking three cups of tea a day, the risk of a stroke was reduced 21 percent," the New York Daily News quoted Arab as saying. That's why these findings are so exciting. If we can find a way to prevent the stroke, or prevent the damage, that is simple and not toxic, that would be a great advance," he added.

Bag a new brew...Tea rocks!!!!!!!
Boost your energy with white or green tea, which has a delicate flavor that requires little sweetening. "Of all the teas, white and green tea goes through the least processing," says Iman Hakim, M.D., Ph.D., a professor at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona in Tucson and a leading researcher on the benefits of tea. As a result, white tea has the highest concentration of L-theanine, an amino acid that, according to recent research, stimulates alpha brain waves to boost alertness while producing a calming effect. And because a cup of white tea contains less caffeine (15 milligrams) than other teas (up to 50 mg) and coffee (120 mg), it's more hydrating, another key for sustaining energy.

GOT FAT? ............GET TEA! :-)
Jan 13th 2009 Statistics. 33% Overweight, 31% Obese and 8% Overly Obese.
Wake up my American brothers and sisters - Drink Tea - Lose Weight. I agree with those that say- it's your mind-set!
Most of the slimming products are non-fat substances and curtail the intake of food. They act as a substitute for oily food, creating intervals between feedings. Just another significant way of stopping your craving. What's special about tea? They have the catechins and anti-oxidants - very needy for burning up that fat. They regulate bowel habits and supply more nutrient content, especially water, into the human body.
Green teas are partially oxidized and so are much more stringent in removing excess fat. Studies have shown decrease in body weight after intake of authentic Green Teas. Overdoing fatty foods and also consuming tea will just not get you there. Tea, combined with exercises, a structured eating pattern, avoidance and schedule is what will give you success.
Tea effectively cuts down your hunger - period. The amount of Caffeine in black tea is less than half of what you get in Coffee! No wonder, the coffee market is a target for tea! For those that refrain from caffeine, Green teas are an excellent solution. They have what it takes to reshape. Let go of your Sodas too!
Increasingly, iced tea is served in gyms world-wide. They refresh and also refrain the fat from settling down. No other product is as easy as making tea - if you know how to heat water in a cup in the microwave, you got your tea. And if you like it cold, just add ice to it! No surprise, tea is the most consumed beverage, after water - in the world. In many countries, tea is a ritual. Sometimes a part of one's life. Like breakfast and dinner - there is tea-time. In Japan, there is an entire ceremony for tea.
Many Southern restaurants carry more than 3 types of iced teas - with the biggest market for flavored teas. Some of them titillate the palate into a craving for tea. Basil (Tulsi) seemed to take the tea market by storm - including Cinnamon, Vanilla, Mint and Hazelnut. All these spices offer a host of medicinal benefits to the consumer. Ayurvedha and Yoga have played their part in tea consumption. They totally vouch for tea. There's tea for bronchitis, slimming, digestion, immunity, cerebral power, fever, yoga and so on and so forth - all variants of this blissful beverage.
Avoid beverage orders at the restaurant - you can make the same tea at home for less than a fraction of the cost! Carry your own case of tea bags with you to work. Hot water is all you need. Or make them and carry in a flask. Or have your t-filters (t-sac) ready for your travel. Infuse the health drink on the go. Big retail prices for common beverages are not for the smart anymore. Blame it on the Economy - switch to tea. Where you get more for less, in a dwindling economy.
As we say always : Let Go. Rejuvenate. Drink for your body, mind and soul!

It's not easy betting in the business of tea!
Right from when I was a kid - tea's been in my life....both in the kitchen cabinet and in the gardens around my home...the aroma of lovely tea engulfing a whole town...
Those bratty days when Dad showed me our tea gardens - and me trying to keep up to his pace...
Those days when the tea leaves were weighed in scales suspended from wooden posts....and withered in those dim-lit halls...
Those warm rainy days and the sounds of tea being processed in large machineries...
Little did I imagine, we'll one day have our own tea brand! An online wholesale and retail tea store - whew!
My MBA education showed me the path - reach out to the supply chain...I wanted make my childhood association and remembrance - A brand! Avatar Teas.
Export and Import was and is my passion...Maybe, just growing the tea was not enough...
And I love tea! I can have it close to my heart, if I worked for it everyday!
Wonder WHAT sells tea??? The price? The Quality? The Service? The muscle?
The last two years were a total learning experience -
World Tea Expo, Multiple Trade shows, Conversations, Sampling at buyer events, etc.
Then came choosing the tea, the blend, the package, the packing, the serving. the designing, the art work, the printing, the cost, the visiting cards, brochures, banners, bags, whew!
And then the shipping, FOB, customs, customs brokers, air frieght, storage, safety, whew!!
Certifications! Certifications! Secure site? Organic? Fair Trade? ..whoa!
Then Amazon, Ebay, PayPal, Trade posts, google marketing, yahoo marketing, post cards ...uff!
Organic Teas vs Flavored Teas vs. Black Teas vs. Green Teas vs. Herbal Teas vs. Yoga Teas vs. Tea Accessories - What would sell? Why? How? .......Whew!
Not to scare off new ventures - but this should give a rough awakening on whats in store - decisions based on available information and 'your' vision!
Focus - And success is yours! Atleast, I believe in that.
I'm now redesigning my website - bringing in a whole lot of Organic, Flavored and Natural teas!
Should be out in the next 2 or 3 weeks! Very excited! Ayurvedic and Yoga teas are also on their way!
Weight loss teas - watch out and don't lose a ton ;-)
...............My friend says, a nice tummy is a symbol of prosperity :-) ....
Happy Par TEA ing!
